Today’s Key Verse: 3-4
But you, O Lord, are a shield about me,
my glory, and the lifter of my head.
I cried aloud to the Lord,
and he answered me from his holy hill.
I think I tend to more quickly identify with the Psalms where David cries out from a pit or pleas for mercy. I love these Psalms because it reminds me of how great and how completely God rescued me from overwhelming odds. Look at the key verse. Not only is God my shield, but he also lifts my head that has been hung in despair, shame and defeat. I can lay down and sleep, with no fear, for the Lord sustains me. Beautiful.
I think this Psalms shows us a definitive turn. It seems like it starts with David in a panic, desperate in the face of his trial. He quickly reminds himself of God’s great glory and we see a change in His tone. He is suddenly unafraid and even confident. We serve this same God. He is glorious and loving. He will be your shield and he will lift your head.
