Did you know that almost 1 billion people in the world do not have access to clean drinking water? When a representative from the ministry http://www.charitywater.org came to 8 year old Rachel’s church, she learned that millions of kids don’t live past their 5th birthday. She knew right then what she wanted to do. Her 9th birthday was coming up and instead of presents, she told her friends and family to donate the money they would have spent on presents to this ministry. She set up a page on their site and set a goal of $300 by her 9th birthday. When her birthday rolled around, she was up to $220. Then, tragically, she died in a car wreck. Since then, her church and others that knew about her goal promoted this vision she had. At the writing of this blog, people have donated $524,226 in her honor and memory to this cause of clean water. Charity: water uses 100% of money donated for clean water projects around the world, mostly in Asia and Africa. Thanks to the tender heart of this little girl and God’s awesome love and power in turning tragedy into great good, over 26,000 people will be gaining access to clean drinking water– and the numbers keep growing!
This story is amazing to me. It’s very sad for her family and the people who knew her, but I know she is up in Heaven smiling at what God is doing with her legacy.
Check out Rachel’s page, still going strong.
