We have pretty short term memories about certain things don’t we? Ever felt like you were “nudged” by the Holy Spirit to do something small? I’m not talking about major decisions in life or even the leading of someone to Christ. I’m talking about doing something to help somebody out or show the love of God in a small way. A “good deed”, I suppose. An opportunity arises and you feel this little nudge inside like, “I should do that for so and so”. You have a choice then. Whether you choose to listen or to not listen, it seems like the results will be minimal and the deed won’t be remembered a week or two later. If you don’t listen to the Holy Spirit it’s not like you’re going to lose your salvation or you walk out the door and God will cause you to trip and break your nose on the sidewalk. If you do listen, you might feel good about it after and you might receive gratitude from the person you helped. Either way, not a big deal right? I was thinking about this. We know that God does not remember our sin or hold it against us. (Psalm 103:11-12) But, it also says that we will give an accounting of our lives before God- everything we’ve said and done. (Romans 14:11-12) I think that doesn’t mean we account for just the bad, but that God will call to our memory the times that we listened to Him. We may not remember and it may not even make a huge difference (or perhaps it does and you never see that fruit), but God sees and remembers. And, I think it makes Him smile. Doesn’t that make it worth it? I also think when you listen to those little nudges it strengthens the Holy Spirit’s pull in your life and trains you to listen to Him in all things and it grows your relationship with God. So maybe those little nudges aren’t so little after all? Thoughts?
