A few things have happened recently that remind me of our 2 dimensional nature. I guess firstly, I should explain what I mean by this, as we aren’t literally 2 dimensional. We are very temporal- we can only see this moment. Some people can guess the future, but no one really knows with 100% certainty what will happen next. We do our best to plan and be prepared and vigilant. Sometimes our planning works out to our advantage, sometimes it fails us. In a very small nutshell that is the human experience. God sees and knows all. He surpasses time. He created time. He knows exactly what we’re going to do next. It’s easy for Him to craft our lives and our paths. Down here, we can either trust in Him to lead us, or rage against Him without any patience. It’s very hard to trust in something unseen and to patiently wait on the unknown. You might be going through a hard time. Maybe you are constantly struggling, or maybe you are waiting on something. You feel like your life is on hold until you have this or know that or complete such and such. I understand. I can totally relate. I feel like most people can. A devotional I read recently reminded me of Jacob/Israel. Here he is, suffering famine in the land of Canaan. He has lost his favorite son and is at the verge of losing his other son Benjamin. He has no idea what God has been up to. That God has carefully orchestrated all things, so as to provide for Israel food in famine and a chance for his family to flourish. We see this story knowing how everything turns out. A God’s eye view, if you will. If only we could keep in mind the lesson this story teaches us in our own lives. It doesn’t matter what you’re going through or how long you’ve “waited”. God knows exactly when He will bring you out or up or on to the next thing. His timing is perfect and there is no uncertainty. Trust in God, he is Sovereign and will lead you out. It sounds easy in words, but very hard to live out.
